Kansas City Royals (18-17 .514 4 GB tied for 3rd place in the PCL East) at
Portland Beavers (20-15 .571 in 1st place in the PCL West)

KC: Don Finley (25-R 4-3 4.31 ERA) Rookie vs. POR: Lonny Tomski (27-R 0-2 4.29 ERA) Rookie

Finley was roughed up in his first two starts, but has gone 4-1 since and in his only loss in that stretch, he pitched a complete game. He has gone 8 or innings in 5 of his last 6 starts and 7 in the one he did not. We have not faced him this season.

We need Lonny Tomski to go deep into this game.

Top of the First:
Alejandro Prieto hits a lazy fly ball to left. Randy Schmitt flares a hit to left. He steals 2nd. He steals 3rd. Ricky Rodriguez homers to right. 2 to 0, Royals. Ed Gladney flies out to center. Pedro Fuentes grounds out to the pitcher.

Bottom of the First:
Dale Ainsworth grounds out to 2nd. 3-2 pitch to Dennis Webb and he grounds out to short. Gary Long grounds out to 3rd.

Bottom of the Fifth:

Randy James leads off with a home run to left! 2 to 1, Royals.

Bottom of the Sixth:
With 2 outs, Jeff Austin reaches on a 2 base throwing error by 3B Jose Arias. They pull Finely. That seems a little quick. Only 85 pitches and cruising through our hitters. No injury has been reported. New Pitcher: Reggie Mack (26-R). Howard McNeal doubles to right center to tie the game at 2! Thanks Mr. Idiot Manager of the Royals! Randy James grounds out to the pitcher to end the inning.

Top of the Eighth:
Oh! I felt so good about getting to the Eighth without using any relievers! New Pitcher: Antoine Redd (31-R). With 2 outs, Ricky Rodriguez doubles. We intentionally walk Ed Gladney for the second time today to get to the hottest hitter on their team... Pedro Fuentes singles and Rodriguez scores. 3 to 2, Royals. PH Tony Olson (37-L). They pull off a double steal and so we walk Olson intentionally to load the bases up with 2 outs to face C Tim Pierce. He walks on 4 pitches to force in a run.... 4 to 2, Royals. A wild pitch scores another... 5 to 2, Royals.
