Josh Hader pitched into the fifth inning and received help from three relievers as Springfield shutout St. Louis 5-0 at Busch Stadium (1997).
Hader scattered five hits over his 4.2 innings on the mound. He struck out eight and walked one.
The River Walkers only managed two more hits the rest of the way, both of them singles off Ryan Pressly, one in the bottom of the seventh inning and the other in the eighth.
Jacob Rhame finished the fifth inning and worked a perfect sixth.
Pressly handled the seventh and recorded the first two outs of the eighth.
Drew Steckenrider walked a batter in the eighth, putting runners at first and second with two outs.
He got Romy Gonzalez to fly out to end the threat.
Steckenrider followed that with a 1-2-3 ninth.
Springfield got the only run it needed in the second inning off River Walkers starter Argenis Batista.
Odubel Herrerra tripled with two outs and scored when Max Schrock followed with a single.
The lead grew to 3-0 in the third, Nate Traylor with a two-run homer off Batista.
Eric Hosmer and Eugenio Suarez opened the fifth inning with back-to-back doubles.
Schrock completed the scoring with a solo shot off Batista in the sixth.
