The Seattle Rainiers are in town to play a 3 game series over the weekend. They just lost 2 in Oakland and have lost their last 5 games. They are 8th in the PCL in scoring with 4.48 runs per game (Portland is still last (16th) with 3.43). Seattle is dead last in fewest runs allowed with 5.38 per game (Portland is #3 with 3.62). The Rainiers play in one of the best pitchers parks in Baseball, Safeco Field.

Dan McKee swings at a 3-2 pitch and lines one down the right field line, but 1B Glenn Snowden makes a diving catch! Adam Carter beats out an infield hit. Ronaldo Entrevinhas grounds into a force at 2nd, 5-4. We can never trade for him, because his name is too tough to type.... Entrevinhas tries to steal 2nd in front of their home run hitter and gets thrown out by C Glenn Oswell!

Bottom of the First:
Jack Hinckley grounds a hit to right. He steals 2nd. Bill Wilson grounds out softly to short and Hinckley goes to 3rd. Melvin Rodarte grounds out to short and Hinckley scores. 1 to 0, Beavers! Glenn Snowden draws a walk. Fernando Mexicano strikes out looking...

Top of the Fourth:
With 1 out, Luis Hernandez, the ex-Beaver, doubles to right. Chris Simpson grounds a hit to right and Hernandez moves to 3rd. Juan Garza grounds out to 3rd and Hernandez stays put and Simpson moves to 2nd. 2 outs. John Roberts takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4 to load the bases up. Don Kelly grounds out to 3rd!

Bottom of the Fourth:
Melvin Rodarte leads off with a hit and steals 2nd. Glenn Snowden doubles to right and Rodarte scores! 2 to 0, Beavers! Fernando Mexicano lines a hit over the shortstop and Snowden stops at 3rd. Shannon Kuchta grounds into a force at 2nd, 6-4, and Snowden scores. 3 to 0, Beavers! But Mexicano is limping back to the dugout...

Top of the Fifth:
Jerry Grant (30-L) is in to play left. P Earl Rogers leads off with a hit... Dan McKee grounds a double play ball to short, but Dave Risinger makes a bad throw to 2nd for an error... Adam Carter bunts the runners up. Ronaldo Entrevinhas flies out to left and the runners hold. 2 outs. Luis Hernandez is NOT walked and pops out to shallow left!

Bottom of the Fifth:

With 2 outs, Melvin Rodarte doubles over the center fielder's head. Glenn Snowden hits a home run to left!! 5 to 0, Beavers! That sends P Earl Rogers packing. New Pitcher: Ray Kozlowski (26-R). 4.82 ERA in 9.1 IP. 8 BB and 16 SO. Jerry Grant lines a hit to center. Shannon Kuchta flies out to center.

On the Hill: Ricky Johnson (35-R), beginning his second inning of work after retiring us in order in the Seventh. With 1 out, Jerry Grant swings at the first pitch and lines a hit to center. With 2 outs, Dave Risinger grounds a 3-2 pitch up the middle for a hit and Grant takes 3rd. A wild pitch scores Grant! 6 to 0, Beavers! Glenn Oswell swings at a 3-2 pitch and grounds out to 2nd.

Top of the Ninth:
P Jim Krueger, in his 3rd inning of work, strikes out the side in order!! He faced 7 batters in the game and struck out 5 of them!

Roberto Gil (W 2-3) went 6.2 scoreless innings, allowed 5 hits, 3 walks and struck out 4.
RHP Jim Krueger went 2.1 innings and retired all 7 batters he faced with 5 strikeouts.

Earl Rogers (L 1-3) went 4.1 innings, gave us 5 runs, 7 hits, 1 home run, 1 walk and struck out 1. At bat, he had a hit.

3B Melvin Rodarte had 2 hits with a double, stole a base, scored 2 runs and had an RBI. 1B Glenn Snowden hit a double and a home run, his 3rd of the season, drew a walk, scored 2 runs and had 3 RBI. LF Jeff Grant went 2 for 2 and scored a run.

Trudy the Trainer had too many reports to make... P Roberto Gil just had a mild back strain, she says, and should be fine for his next start. LF Fernando Mexicano, however, has a high ankle sprain and will be out about 5 weeks...
