Possible long-term extension for Joe McPhillips?

Inside sources with the Denver Brewers are hinting that big news might be announced soon regarding Joe McPhilips and the indications are that it might be regarding a long-term contract extension that could keep the MVP center fielder in Brewers purple for the rest of his career.

The rumor is that the Brewers approached the 26-year old All-Star with the intention of getting an early start on getting him inked for the 1976 season, given that he will be arbitration eligible at the end of this season. But apparently the young outfielder, who was the Brewers first round pick in the 1967 draft, #5 overall, had already made it clear to his agent that he wanted to look much farther into the future and was willing to bypass his next few years of arbitration eligibility for the security of a long-term deal.

If reports are to be trusted, the Brewers front office was very amenable to this idea and mostly were willing to meet McPhillips contract demands, though they did counter with at least one more team option towards the end of the proposed deal.
Nothing has been made official yet, but it sounds like Brewers fans will have reason to celebrate soon.
