We are in San Francisco to play the PCL West Champion Seals a 4 game series. They split 4 games in San Diego over the weekend. We are 3-7 against them on the season and won 2 of 3 the last time we were here, August 20-22. They lead the PCL in scoring with 4.85 runs per game (Portland is 6th with 4.24). They lead with 150 HR and we are 2nd with 143. They also lead with a .278 team BA. We are hitting .263. The Seals are 4th in fewest runs allowed with 3.78 per game (Portland is 6th with 3.99). They have the 2nd best Bullpen ERA at 2.62. Ours is 9th at 3.46. Their run differential is +165 and ours is +39.

Jack Hinckley lines out to 1st. Juan Rojas flies out to left, Dave McDowell making a diving catch.... Fernando Mexicano lines one to left and McDowell makes another dive, but traps this one and Mexicano has a hit. Glenn Snowden hits one 436 ft. to dead center!! 2 to 0, Beavers! Jim Shippy grounds out to 3rd.

Bottom of the First:
Jerry Serrano pops a foul ball down the right field line, but Jose Julio drops it for an error... Given a second chance, Serrano takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4... Brian Dube grounds into a force at 2nd, 5-4. Dave McDowell, the reigning and future MVP, strikes out looking! Bil Webber grounds a hit up the middle past the shortstop. Mike Sorrel strikes out!

Bottom of the Second:
With 1 out, George Cowles draws a walk. Russ Jimenez doubles to left. With the infield in, P Mike Bennett grounds out to short and the runners hold. 2 outs. Jerry Serrano grounds out to short!

Top of the Third:
P Duke McKenzie reaches base when 3B Brian Dube boots his ground ball. Jack Hinckley grounds a hit up the middle. Juan Rojas grounds into a force at 2nd, 4-6, and McKenzie goes to 3rd. Runner on third with less than 2 outs, so Fernando Mexicano strikes out... Glenn Snowden grounds out to 2nd... Phooey...

Bottom of the Fourth:
With 2 outs, Russ Jimenez singles and then scores when P Mike Bennett doubles down the left field line... 2 to 1, Beavers.

Top of the Fifth:
Fernando Martinez leads off with a home run to right! 3 to 1, Beavers! That is four straight games with a home run for Martinez! With 1 out, Jack Hinckley walks on 4 pitches. With 2 outs, he steals 2nd. Fernando Mexicano lines a hit to left and Hinckley scores! 4 to 1, Beavers!

Top of the Sixth:

Dave Risinger lines a hit to center. Jose Julio pops out to right. And they make a pitching change. New Pitcher: Bob Gallucci (28-R) with a 3.67 ERA in 49 IP and 9 BB. P Mike Bennett does not have much stamina.... Fernando Martinez grounds a hit up the middle and Risinger goes to 3rd. P Duke McKenzie bunts Martinez to 2nd and Risinger holds at 3rd. 2 outs. Jack Hinckley grounds one to short, but George Cowles boots it and Risinger scores! 5 to 1, Beavers! Juan Rojas flies out to left.

Top of the Seventh:

New Pitcher: Dick McKinster (36-R) with a 2.24 ERA in 64.1 IP with only 13 BB. Fernando Mexicano leads off with a home run to left! 6 to 1, Beavers!

Bottom of the Seventh:
Jerry Serrano swings at 3-2 pitch and lines one off the left field wall for a double. 113.8 MPH exit velocity... The Bullpen is up. With 1 out, C Jim Shippy's second passed ball of the game sends Serrano to 3rd. Dave McDowell doubles to left center and Serrano scores. 6 to 2, Beavers. Call to the Bullpen: Ken Powell (31-R). He has an 8.56 ERA... Bill Webber loops a hit to right and McDowell scores. 6 to 3, Beavers. Mike Sorrel grounds into a force at 2nd, 3-6. 2 outs. Bruce Jump jumps on the first pitch and doubles over the center fielder's head... Sorrel tries to score from first, but 2B Juan Rojas cuts off the throw to the plate and fires to 3rd to nail Jump! The run counts, however. 6 to 4, Beavers.

Top of the Eighth:

PH Brian Mitchell (21-L) and Fernando Martinez each line a hit to center. PH Don Neumann (32-S) grounds into a force at 2nd, 6-4, and Mitchell goes to 3rd. Runner on 3rd with less than two outs.... Jack Hinckley decides to not strike out and instead see if he can ground into a double play. They get the force at 2nd, 6-4, but Hinckley beats the throw to 1st and Mitchell scores! 7 to 4, Beavers! Juan Rojas pops out to 3rd.

Bottom of the Ninth:

On the Hill: Garry Ayers (29-R), beginning his second inning of work after a scoreless 8th. With 1 out, Dave McDowell takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4. Bill Webber lines an 0-2 pitch to right for a hit, bringing the tying run to the plate... Mike Sorrel grounds a hit to center and the bases are loaded with 1 out.... Call to the Bullpen: Jim Kokos (29-R). Bruce Jump strikes out! 2 down. George Cowles swings at a 2-2 pitch and doubles to left center and 2 runs score.... 7 to 6, Beavers. 1 pitch away, dernnit! Ricardo Jimenez swings at a 3-2 pitch and flies out to center and THIS Ball Game Belongs to the Beavers!

For San Francisco, 2B Bill Webber had 3 hits and a walk, scored a run and had an RBI. PH Clay Laurence (23-R) made an out, ending his 20 game hitting streak.
