Walkers news: May 25 -- St. Louis 4, Springfield 3

Record: 23-21, 3rd, 1.5 GB Springfield
Jared Thomas led off the top of the ninth inning with a home run off Springfield reliever Mark McConnell with a home run, snapping a 3-3 tie and helping give St. Louis a 4-3 win at Olympic Stadium (Montreal).
It was a 2-1 count when Thomas drove the ball 399 feet over the right-field wall.
The game was scoreless through seven innings, and the River Walkers didn't get their first hit until the eighth.
By that time, they trailed 3-0.
The Prairie Fighters scored three times against the St. Louis bullpen in the bottom of the seventh.
Wander Samuel Franco got it going with a one-out homer off reliever Derek Gordon.
Eric Hosner later delivered a two-out double off Tim Hill to make it 3-0.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Walkers first hit came when Larry Ernesto led off the inning with a single off reliever Kenley Jansen.
JT Schwartz followed with a two-run homer, making it 3-2.
St. Louis would tie it when Jansen walked Edmond Americaan with one out.
Bo Bichette followed with a single off a new reliever, Francis Martes, moving Americaan to second.
Mark McConnell then took the mound.
He retired Carlos Vidal on a foul ball, but he hit Fernando Tatis Jr. with a pitch to load the bases.
With Andrew Benintendi at the plate, McConnell got called for a balk, allowing Americaan to score the tying run.
Walkers starting pitcher Steven Brault worked six shutout innings. He allowed three hits while striking out three and walking two.
Derek Gordon and Tim Hill combined to pitch the seventh, when Springfield scored its three runs.
Edwin Diaz (3-1) worked a scoreless eighth inning.
The ninth belonged to Jake Brentz, who despite allowing a single and a walk, managed to post his first save.
