Record: 19-19, 4th, 2.5 GB Springfield
Kansas City pounded four home runs and jumped out to a 11-4 lead, before holding on to defeat St. Louis 11-6 at Busch Stadium (1997).
The Pit Masters seized control with a five-run third inning, which featured an RBI ground out from Greg Jones and run-scoring single from Blaze Jordan before Danny Cushing hit a three-run homer, to go up 5-0.
Carlos Vidal, who went deep twice, led off the fourth with a homer off Kansas City starter Dominic Pipkin and the Walkers also got an RBI single from JT Schwartz to make it 5-2.
St. Louis then sliced the deficit to 5-4 in the fifth when Vidal hit his second homer of the game.
But Kansas City broke it open again the seventh, this time with a four-run outburst.
Yasmani Grandal got it started with a two-run homer off reliever Tim Hil.
Josh Shuler followed with another two-run shot, this one off Derek Gordon, to make it 9-4.
Shuler would add another two-run homer in the ninth, this one also off Gordon.
Pipkin handled the first 5.2 innings, allowing four runs on six hits.
Kyle Nelson (1.1 IP), Austin Hansen (1.1) and Noah Murdock (0.2) handled the rest of the game.
