In the top of the first, the Rangers loaded the bases with two out. Johnson brought two home with a single.

In the top of the third, Johnson struck again with two out, stroking an RBI single. Then, on a Harrah grounder, a bad throw by Leon allowed Carty to score from second. A walk loaded the bases. Sudakis flew to center to retire the side.

In the bottom of the third, Henderson hit a two out solo home run.

In the top of the fourth, Epstein brought a run home with a sacrifice fly.

Rich Gossage took the mound for the White Sox in the top of the sixth. Without a hit, the Rangers loaded the bases with nobody out. Melton made a bad throw on an Epstein grounder as Maddox came in to score. Carty brought two in with a double. Johnson walked to reload the bases still with nobody out. Pinch hitter Jim Mason brought all three home with a double. Eddie Fisher took the mound for the White Sox. Pinch hitter Lenny Randle hit an RBI double. Sudakis brought Randle home with a double. Pinch hitter Joe Lovitto followed with an RBI single. Madlock the hit a two run homer. With two out, Mason, in his second at bat of the inning, hit a three-run homer. Steve Kealey took the mound for the White Sox. The Rangers scored fourteen runs in the inning.

After six: Texas 19 Chicago 1.

In the top of the seventh, Larry Biittner hit a two-out RBI single.

In the bottom of the seventh, the White Sox loaded the bases with two out. May cleared the bases with a double.

In the bottom of the eighth, with a runner on first and one out, Dick Bosman took the mound for the Rangers.

In the top of the ninth, Luis Alvarado took the mound for the White Sox.

The two teams combined for 26 hits in the contest. The White Sox also committed four errors. The Rangers drew an even dozen walks.

Final score: Texas 20 Chicago 4.
