Portland Beavers (43-26 .623 in 1st place in the PCL West)

SF: Brad Simpson (35-R 9-3 2.90) vs. POR: Angel Gaspar (23-R 3-2 3.77) Rookie

We beat Simpson the only time we have faced him this season by scoring 3 runs in 5 innings when he was pitching on short rest.

Gaspar is 2-0 in his last 3 starts, all Quality ones.

Dan Fortino strikes out looking on three pitches! Ron Chestnut takes the count full, but swings and misses the payoff pitch! Gary Halbert swings at an 0-2 pitch and grounds out to short. 1-2-3!

Bottom of the First:

Paul Bouvet grounds a hit to right. Omar Flores grounds a hit to center. Bob Draper walks on 4 pitches to load the bases up with no outs. Last time we found ourselves in this situation, we did not score a run... Jeff Austin swings at a 2-2 pitch and lines a hit to left and Bouvet scores! 1 to 0, Beavers! Tony Casarez grounds one to 2nd, but they only get a force at 2nd, thanks to a hard slide by Jeff Austin, and Flores scores. 2 to 0, Beavers! Austin is hurt on the play, but Pepe says he is okay and can stay in the game. Dave Lesley swings at the first pitch and flies out to left, but Draper holds at 3rd. 2 outs. Jeff Schottler grounds out to short.

Bottom of the Third:
With 1 out, Jeff Austin bloops a hit over the second baseman's head and then steals 2nd. Tony Casarez hits a home run to right center!! 4 to 0, Beavers!

Top of the Fourth:

After retiring the first 11 batters of the game, P Angel Gaspar walks Gary Halbert with 2 outs, but strikes out Chris Greenwald!

Top of the Fifth:
With 2 outs, Bill Giffin gets the first hit of the game for the Seals, a home run to right... 4 to 1, Beavers.

Top of the Sixth:
P Angel Gaspar strikes out the side in order!

Top of the Eighth:
Javy Vasquez leads off with a double to center and scores on a couple of ground outs. 4 to 2, Beavers.

Bottom of the Eighth:

New Pitcher: Lee Redden (29-R). 5.25 ERA. Tony Casarez leads off with a walk and Dave Lesley doubles to right center. They walk Jeff Schottler intentionally to load the bases up with no outs. Dennis Webb strikes out... PH Gordon Saunderson (27-L) grounds into a 4-2-3 double play...no runs...can you break a hand that is already broken?...I think I may have...
