In an interesting twist of fate, on December 6th, Fidrych is traded to the
Detroit Tigers along with center-fielder Willie Davis for aging veteran pitcher Mickey Lolich. I now need to pick my jaw up off the floor...
There we go. Anyway, that was probably for the better as the Dodgers already have a solid pitching lineup and The Bird would've probably been a reliever for quite a while. The Tigers are a rebuilding team so he probably has a better shot at making the rotation with this team.
Only Don Drysdale was elected to the HOF this year with 86.5% of the vote. Lew Burdette was a distant second at 41.3%.
Nothing else happens to Fidrych through the offseason. Here's how he looks on Opening Day:
As you can see he still continues to improve. It doesn't show it here, but his potential stars have gone up to four. He's still a reliever, but let's hope that doesn't last too long. It must also be nice seeing Fidrych in a Tigers uniform, right Tiger Fan?
