07/15/1972 - Phils Nip Giants, Kingman Hurt

Philadelphia beat San Francisco at Candlestick Park, eking out a 7-6 win. The win was due in large part to second baseman Terry Harmon, who earned player of the game honors. The Phillies bumped their record to 46-45 with this latest triumph.

The result might have been different for Philadelphia, had it not been for Larry Bowa. The shortstop produced a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Phillies ahead, 7-6. For the game, Bowa had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Harmon told the Philadelphia Citizen

Giants first baseman Dave Kingman pulled up lame after legging out a double in the bottom of the 2nd. He was replaced by Ed Goodson, who went 2-3 with 2 RBI.
