06/28/1972 - Morgan Helps Reds Run Win Streak to 4, No Late Heroics This Time for Kingman
The Cincinnati Reds downed the San Francisco Giants, 9-6, at Candlestick Park. Joe L Morgan led the way, going 4-for-5 for Cincinnati. Cincinnati starter Jack Billingham was credited with the win after throwing 134 pitches over 8 innings. His record now stands at 5-5. Clay Carroll notched his 11th save in 12 chances.
The Reds had to work out of trouble in the bottom of the ninth. The score was 9-6, Cincinnati, with no one out. San Francisco, with a runner on 1st, was mounting a threat. Dave Kingman dug in at the plate, but on a first pitch fastball, he popped out.
