06/14/1972 - Pirates Come Back Late, Nip Giants on Clemente Sac Fly

The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the San Francisco Giants, 6-5, at Three Rivers Stadium. Pittsburgh right fielder Roberto Clemente was named player of the game for his superb performance. He went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. With the win, the Pirates have a record of 35-27.

The clutch at-bat in the bottom of the ninth belonged to Clemente. Facing Steve Stone with the bases loaded, the Pittsburgh right fielder had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. Game over, walk-off style!

"I'm glad I could get it done when the game was in the balance," Clemente said in his postgame press conference
