Cardinals Win to Extend Series Lead to 3-0

Riding the 4-hit performance of second baseman Red Schoendienst, the St. Louis 1946 Cardinals got a road win against the Brooklyn 1946 Dodgers, 9-2, in Game 3 of the World Series today. Schoendienst went 4 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 singles. He scored 3 times and drove in 2 for the Cardinals, who now lead the best-of-7 series, 3 games to 0.

Schoendienst delivered in the top of the second inning for St. Louis 1946. With the game tied and runners on 2nd and 3rd, the second baseman hit a 2-run double to left-center.

"Things broke our way today and that's great," Cardinals manager Eddie Dyer said. "It's important, though, to stay focused and not pat yourself on the back too much. We aren't done yet."

The next game is scheduled for tomorrow in Brooklyn. Slated to start are Ken Burkhart for the St. Louis 1946 Cardinals and Art Herring for the the Brooklyn 1946 Dodgers.
