In the bottom of the first, a run-scoring single by Maddox put the Rangers on the board.

In the top of the second, Brown tied the game with an RBI double.

After three: Chicago 1 Texas 1.

In the top of the fifth, the White Sox loaded the bases with two out. But Northrup flew out to center to retire the side.

After six: Chicago 1 Texas 1.

In the top of the seventh, Melton brought in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Rangers had a runner at first and two out. Terry Forster took the mound for the White Sox. The Rangers got another base runner on but Burroughs flied out to left to end the inning.

In the top of the ninth, the White Sox had two one with one out and Paul Lindblad came in to pitch. He kept the White Sox from scoring and the Rangers went into the bottom of the ninth still down by a single run.

But the Rangers went down in order in the ninth to end the game.

Final score: Chicago 2 Texas 1.
