Hand faced on hitter before leaving the game with an injury. Bill Castro replaced him on the mound with a runner on first and one out in the top of the first. Two outs later, Blomberg hit a 2 run homer.

In the bottom of the third, Nelson extended his hit streak to 11 games with an RBI double, his 10th ribbie of the season. Maddox then brought hom the tying run from third on a groundball out. Harrah then gave the Rangers the lead with an RBI single.

Pete Broberg took the mound for the Rangers in the top of the fifth. Suarez threw out Chalk trying to steal second. It was the tenth time Suarez recorded a caught stealing this season.

In the bottom of the fifth, Burroughs mashed a two-run homer for his 20th RBI of the season. Grieve made it back to back with a solo shot. Dent then hit his own to make it back to back to back.

In the top of the sixth, Rice got an RBI single.

In the bottom of the sixth, Konieczny tied a Yankees record for walks in a game with 8. With runners at first and second with one out, Wayne Garland replaced Konieczny. Maddox singled to load the bases. Harrah drew a walk to bring home Suarez. Burroughs struck out there were two down. Grieve then also struck out to end the inning.

Rice singled in the top of the ninth for the Yankees 10th hit of the game.

But that was the last hit of the game.
