1932 PCL DRAFT - GIBSON TAKEN 1ST OVERALL

The Portland Beavers opted for immediate pitching help over the best young player the game has seen in decades. Instead of selecting 18 year old outfielder Joe DiMaggio with the first pick, Portland opted for 32 year old Sam Gibson.

Gibson, who pitched 4 seasons in Major League Baseball before coming out west, is expected to immediately step in and be the ace of the Beavers rotation - which was the worst in the league a year ago.

After Portland announced it's pick, owners of the Hollywood Stars gleefully claimed DiMaggio second overall. The 18 year old outfielder has unlimited potential and should contribute to the Stars woeful offense, which was last in the PCL in runs scored a year ago.

DiMaggio's 20 year old brother Vince, also an outfielder, was taken by the league champion Mission Reds with the final pick of the opening round.

Here are the rest of the picks in a deep draft. The PCL draft is only two rounds leaving all unselected players free to negotiate with all teams.
