Walkers news: May 1 -- Twin Cities 9, St. Louis 2
Record: 15-10, 2nd, 0.5 GB Kansas City
Twin Cities scored once each in the fourth and fifth innings and then piled on a combined seven in the sixth and seventh to cruise to a 9-2 win over St. Louis at Busch Stadium (1997).
With the win, the Snow Cats took the final three of the four-game series against the River Walkers.
In that span, Twin Cities outscored St. Louis 17-4.
The key blow came in the sixth inning, by which time the Cats led 2-0.
With two runners on, the Walkers allowed rookie pitcher Brendan Spagnuolo to face pinch-hitter Victor Reyes with two runners aboard and two outs.
Reyes, who had a pinch-hit double the previous game to breakup a close contest, this time hits a 398-foot bomb to make it 5-0.
Colton Welker hit a three-run homer off Brad Hand in the seventh, as the Twin Cities advantage grew to 9-1.
Cats starting pitcher Sam Howard worked just 3.1 innings before leaving with an undisclosed injury, but he didn't allow a run.
He was followed to the hill by five relievers -- Jario Diaz (1.2 IP), Rex Brothers (0.1), Kyle Nelson (1.2), Jared Carkuff (1.0) and Xavier Cedeno (1.0) -- as the Cats knocked the Walkers out of first place in the National League South Division.
Diaz earned his first win of the season.
