Seattle traded P Mike Olson (33-R) to Pittsburgh for a pair of minor leaguers: 3B Alex Ruffin (22-R) and RF Donnie Stransky (24-L).

Olson is 1-3 with a 5.93 ERA in 8 starts and is out of action for the next month. Neither of the minor leaguers is considered a prospect.

This trade only helps Seattle because they cannot pick someone much worse than Olson for their rotation. If Pittsburgh plans on using Olson when he heals, they will not stay in first place for long.

Top of the Fifth:
Glenn Pearce leads off with a walk and Jeff Schottler grounds into a force at 2nd, 6-4. Dave Benya singles to right and P Pete Burks has to leave the game with an injured wing. New Pitcher: Gary Wood (30-R). I was sad to see Burks the Bum leave, until I saw that Wood has allowed 14 hits in 5 IP. 2 of them HR. P Ron Wolf tries to bunt the runners up, but pops out to 1st. We pull off a double steal. Absolutely stupid!!! But no harm, no foul, I guess. Dale Ainsworth walks to load the bases up with 2 outs. Dave Lesley grounds out to short.

Top of the Seventh:
Jeff Schottler leads off with a hit. Dave Benya bunts him over to 2nd. Another stupid move. Now he is in scoring position for the pitcher....who strikes out. They walk Dale Ainsworth intentionally to get to Dave Lesley, who clears the bases with a double down the left field line! 4 to 1, Beavers! Intentional walks are not the smartest idea when you have a pitcher that the League is batting .500 against. Jeff Austin singles to right and Lesley scores! 5 to 1, Beavers! Howard McNeal grounds out to short.

Bottom of the Seventh:
Rob Douma leads off with a triple to center and scores on a fly ball by PH Haruhisa Yoshimura. 5 to 2, Beavers.

We had 9 hits and made 2 errors
Denver had 5 hits and made no errors

We made an error for the 5th straight game, a season high.

Ron Wolf (W 7-3) went 8 innings, allowed 2 runs, 5 hits, no walks and struck out 2. He balked.
RHP Antoine Redd (SV 7) pitched a perfect 9th and struck out 1.

Pete Burks (L 4-6) went 4.1 innings, gave us 2 runs, 4 hits, 1 walk and struck out 3.

RF Dale Ainsworth had a hit and 2 walks (1 INT) and scored 2 runs. SS Dave Lesley hit a double, scored a run and had 2 RBI and made error #12. 1B Jeff Austin had 2 hits with a triple, scored a run and had 2 RBI.

The word on P Pete Burks is inflammation of the forearm and he is expected to be out the rest of the season.
