In the bottom of the first, Nelson put the Rangers on the board with an RBI double.

In the top of the sixth, Petrocelli tied the game with an RBI double. Griffin then gave them the lead with a run-scoring single. Aparicio followed with his own RBI single.

After six: Boston 3 Texas 1.

In tbe top of the seventh, with a runner on first and two out, Casey Cox took the mound for the Rangers. Fisk greeted him with a two-run homer on his very first pitch. Griffin added an RBI double.

In the top of the eighth, Cater scored when Cox was called for a balk.

Jim Shellenback took the mound for the Rangers in the top of the ninth.

The Red Sox out hit the Rangers 15-5 in the contest.

Final score: Boston 7 Texas 1.
