In the top of the first, a sacrifice fly from Piniella gave the Royals their first run before they even had their first hit. Mayberry brought a run in with a single and Burroughs injured his foot on the play and had to leave the game. He was replaced by Frank Howard.

In the top of the second, the Royals loaded the bases with two out. Piniella then broughtall threehome with a double.

In the top of the third, Rojas added an RBI single. Kirkpatrick beat out the 4-6-3 to bring in another run.

Rain began to fall in the bottom of the third.

After three: Kansas City 7 Texas 0.

Jim Shellenback took the mound for the Rangers in the top of the fourth. Piniella hit a solo home run. With one out, Jim Panther took the mound for the Rangers.

The rain stopped in the bottom of the fourth.

In the top of the fifth, Patek hitan RBI single.

In the top of the sixth, Scheinblum smacked an RBI double. Rojas followed with an RBI single.

In the bottom of the sixth, Mincher hit a three run homer.

After six: Kansas City 11 Texas 3.

Leading off the top of the seventh, Paul Schaal pinch hit and drilled a home run. Horacio Pina took the mound for the Rangers.

In the bottom of the seventh, Al Fitzmorris took the mound for the Royals.

In the bottom of the eighth, Howard got a run-scoring double. Billings added an RBI single.

The Royals got 13 hits in the win.

Final score: Kansas City 12 Texas 5.
