Montreal travels a short distance to the Nations capital to meet the Senators (19-25-13) in Ottawa. The two teams have met 3 times with Montreal winning 2, the last one in Ottawa was 3-2 for Montreal. The Habs will start G Martin King between the pipes.


Ottawa opens the scoring early at 3:53 when C Jean-Thomas Audy beats G Martin King for his 11th goal of the season and a 1-0 lead. Montreal C Dean Casey is sent in all alone by RW Joey Mariani and he beats the Sens goalie for his 12th of the year at 5:41 and we are tied 1-1. Both teams have scored on their 1st shot in goal of the game. Ottawa goes up 2-1 at 11:02 when LW Carsten Jensen's deflection goes in for his 5th of the season. Montreal ties it up again, RW Robert Cull deposits a loose rebound in the net at 12:03 for his 8th of the season and a 2-2 tie. Ottawa will get the 1st PP at 17:55 as RW Zach Broderick goes off for roughing. It did not take long for the Sens to capitalize on the PP, RW Klaus Rossignol scores on a rebound at 18:13 and its now 3-2. Montreal will get a late PP, the Sens are called for interference at 19:43 of the period. The Habs don't get a shot over the final 17 seconds and will start the 2nd on the PP with the shots so far 12-10 for the Sens.


Montreal does get 3 shots on the PP to start the 2nd but the score remains 3-2 for the Sens. Montreal will get another chance though as the Sens get called for tripping at 6:10. Montreal gets another 3 shots on the 2nd PP, but still no goal. At 9:45 the Sens RD Patrick Bazlik scores his 1st goal of the year and the Sens are now up 4-2. Montreal gets it back to 4-3 as C Jeff Pilbeam tips RW Robert Cull's shot for his 9th of the season at 17:45. The period ends with the shots now favoring Montreal 24-18.


Montreal's comeback will be delayed as LW Emile Boudreau gets sent off for goaltender interference at 11:45. Montreal will be down 2 men as C Dean Casey is called for cross-checking at 12:22. Montreal gives up 5 shots but King holds his ground before the Sens get called for interference at 13:58. There will be 24 seconds of 4 on 4 and then the Habs will get a short PP. Montreal does get a PP marker to tie the game. C Jeff Pilbeam gets his 10th of the year on the PP at 15:42 to tie it 4-4. Montreal gets another goal just 19 seconds later as LD Richard Nytra gets his 5th of the year at 16:01. Montreal holds off any comeback by the Sens with the win. The final shots were 29-29.
