If that franchise wasn't used in 1900 in another city in the league with the history carried over, I wouldn't see why you couldn't.
Even if the franchise moved, you could probably with a bit of editing copy the history of the franchise that moved and then delete the history for the team that moved.
I'm sure there is some trick that you could use somehow with some manual editing.
I plan on running a history starting with 1871 thru the early 1900s to at least 1915, when the game includes a full set of minor leagues. I should get to the point you are at within a month, and will figure out what can be done to that effect if you cannot solve it yourself before then.
