The Habs travel to Washington, DC with a date with the Capitals. (34-21-7) The Habs and Caps have met twice this year, both times in Montreal and the two teams split those games. G Martin King will get the start.

Montreal get the early lead at 2:10 when C Patrick Atkins pounces on his own rebound for this 18th of the season and the Habs lead 1-0. Montreal goes up 2-0 at 5:49 when LD Dominick Heatherington buries the rebound of LW Randolph Lott's shot for his 4th of the year. Washington gets that back real quick at 6:18 when LW Vytal Marios beats G Martin King with his 12th of the season on the Caps 1st shot of the game. LW Martin Boudreau wins the race on a dump in and beats the Caps goalie from a sharp angle for his 27th of the season at 12:01 and a 3-1 lead for the Habs. Montreal goes up 4-1 on RW Robert Cull's wrister at 13:47 for his 9th goal of the year. The Capitals respond on the PP at 15:24 and make it 4-2 as LW Colby Webster gets his 20th of the season. Looks like the 1st to 10 wins. The 2 goals have let in a combined 6 goals on 16 shots. The period ends with the shots 15-3 for Montreal.

Montreal gets the 5-2 goal at 7:49 when LW Emile Boudreau wins a race for a loose puck and RD Steven Thornton is the benefactor with his 10th of the season. Montreal sends the Caps goalie for an early shower as RW Joey Mariani tips LD Vincent Lavoie's points shot in for his 18th goal of the year at 9:31 and its now 6-2 for Montreal. Montreal gets another one as they beat the Caps back up goalie at 17:56 of the 2nd and its now 7-2. LW David Wass gets his 10th goal of the year. The period ends with the score 7-2 for Montreal and the shots are 33-9 for the Habs.

Montreal makes it 8-2 as C Jeff Pilbeam's shot hits and deflects off of RW Robert Cull for his 2nd of the night and 10th of the year at 8:07. C Patrick Atkins gets his 2nd of the night when he is sent in all alone and uses a head fake to give him his 19th of the season at 9:14. Mercifully for the Capitals the game ends with the score 9-2 and the final shots both favoring Montreal. The final shots were 37-11.
