Milwaukee Brewers SP Gary Ryerson suffered a radial nerve decompression in his elbow and will miss the rest of the season.

In the bottom of the first, Otis put the Royals on the board with a sacrifice fly.

In the top of the third, Burroughs tied the game with a sacrifice fly.

In the top of the fifth, with an assist from a bad throw by Piniella, Maddox scored from first on a Madlock single to give the Rangers the lead. Epstein brought Madlock home with a two out single.

In the bottom of the fifth, Otis tied the game with a two out two run homer.

In the bottom of the sixth, Healy gave the Royals the lead back with a two out RBI single. With runners atthe corners and two out, Mike Paul took the mound for the Rangers and quickly got the last out to end the inning.

After six: Kansas City 4 Texas 3.

In the top of the eighth, with a runner on first and one out, Doug Bird took the mound for the Royals.

In the bottom of the eighth, with a runner at second and one out, Charlie Hudson took the mound for the Rangers. Kirkpatrick stroked an RBI single. Healy blasted a three run homer. Hudson injured his leg on the final out of the inning.

The Royals got 13 hits in the contest.

Final score: Kansas City 8 Texas 3.
