If the computer is getting extremely hot and constantly crashing in-game, it sounds like unfortunately the game is maxing out your system's resources.
What are the specs of your mac? And are you running any programs in the background at the same time as OOTP?
Probably the first thing to try would be to update the OS, restart the system, then make sure all other background apps are turned off and then try playing a game.
Do you still get the crash? If not, and you keep playing for a few more games without restarting the computer, do you get the crash/overheating then?
Let us know and we can go from there in trying to determine exactly what's going on.
