SLL American League mid-season update:

At this point in the season it appears the Yankees (57-45) are in cruise control in the AL East with an 8 game lead over the Jays and 8.5 over the Orioles. Owner Jay Ferraro has been pretty happy with the squad but at the same time has been shopping around to bolster thier teams playoff chances. When asked about his team, Jay replied "Our team has started the campaign strong even with some of our star players stumbling out of the gate. Being able to have Bob Gibson take the bump every fifth day is something special!"

The Yanks offense has been paced by the Big Klu! Ted Kluszewski has smashed 24 HR (2nd in the SLL) and driven in 82 RBI (3rd in the SLL)!

The KC Royals (63-39) are doing most everything right this season and hold the AL's best record. Not hard to understand when they have a solid starting staff and have three pitchers in double digits in Spud Chandler (12-2), Bob Veale (11-6) and Rube Waddell (11-5).

"Although it is still early in the season, we are happy with the way our pitching has performed. Going in, we knew that quality starting pitching would be the key. Now it will be important to monitor workloads so the arms can stay strong." said former Royals pitcher and team owner Jeff Mongomery.

While the KC Royals have a sound 5 game lead over the Indians at the present, they are not to be taken lightly. The Indians are hot again going 8-2 in their last 10 and have the manpower to make a run and currently hold a 1.5 game lead in the WC standings. Ted Williams is batting .353 for Cleveland.

The AL West has been a see-saw battle in recent weeks with the A's (59-43)and M's (58-47) taking turns in 1st place. The A's currently have a 2.5 game lead and have been one of the teams to beat! The Athletics 2B Tommy Harper has been hot lately batting .429 in his last five games. Jose Canseco has provided the power leading the team in HR with 21!

Oakland GM Shawn Anderson was pleased with the team's recent play and had this to say "The entire Oakland A's organization is happy to see the leadership that Jose Canseco has provided both on and off the field. He's a natural talent and surely has a Hall of Fame career ahead of him. There's not a thing that can derail this kid!"
