WESTERN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP: GAME 2

Ernesto Osorio got the start for Glendale in a game they really wanted to win. They knew they would be in trouble if they lost both home games to open the series. He pitched a quick scoreless 1st.

John Murphy got the start for Mesa, and despite loading the bases, he struck out the side in the 1st and kept the game scoreless.

Devon Cosby doubles with two out in the 2nd and came around to score on an Aaron Boeck single as Mesa went ahead 1-0.

Glendale tied the game in the bottom of the 3rd on a Justin Winterbottom single, a couple of walks, and a Jai Norman sacrifice fly.

Robert Day reaches in an error to lead off the 5th and Winterbottom gave the Redbirds a 3-1 lead with a 426 ft home run into left center field.

The Spiders battled back in the 7th. Matt Bracken worked a full count and hit a leadoff home run in the inning. Cosby, Boeck and Michael Daniels strung together three singles and got another run across the plate to tie the game at 3.

Seth Tomlin led off the bottom of the 8th with a single. Jordan Powell struck out and the Spiders went to the bullpen to bring in Joe Magdaleno who got Jimmy Luxon to ground into an inning ending double play.

Mesa couldn’t do anything in the top of the 9th and Magdaleno came back out to try to sent the game to extra innings.

Kyle Jacobs pinch hit to lead off the bottom of the 9th and reached first on an error. After Winterbottom flied out to right, Kevin Wade drew a walk.

Danny Morla came up to bat with two on and one out.

He smoked a line drive into left field. Kyle Vault charged the ball and threw to the plate as Jacobs raced home. Vault grabbed his arm and winced in pain as Jacobs safely crossed the plate. It came out after the game that Vault was likely to miss a few games.

The Redbirds evened the series with a walk-off 4-3 win in game 2 of the series.

Justin Winterbottom was 2-4 with 1 walk, 1 home run, 2 runs scored, and 2 RBI.

Danny Morla was 1-3 with 1 walk and a walk-off RBI single.
