What about WHA players(players who never played in NHL or for just a short time) can they play as random players in the NHL?

It’s essentially historical mode with players from the historical database coming in at random times.
- At setup you select a starting point - example being 1960.
- You then choose if you want to use recalc or the development engine.
- You choose whether you want the rosters to be randomly set up already, or have a random group of players enter an initial league draft. You do not choose which players will be available to you at startup.
- The players when you start the league will all have random ages. You may have a 30 year old Sidney Crosby and a 20 year old Maurice Richard.
- Each summer, a new random class of players will be available to be drafted in the entry draft. Guy Lafleur and Joe Thornton may be in the same draft class etc..
As for the WHA, it is included the same way it is in regular historical mode. In one of my test file, I had a young Doug Gilmour and Connor McDavid as WHA stars.
