Breaking News : Shin Seiki defeats Kentucky 4-games-to-1 to become 2029 PEBA champs!
Once again, the Rodriguez Cup will head to Japan! The
Shin Seiki Evas, led by veteran GM Kevin Vail, secured a second PEBA title in three years! So far, they are PEBA's first (and currently only) Japanese champions.
Since teams from Japan were absorbed into the PEBA nine years ago in 2021, an entire hyper-competitive Japanese division was created (the "Rising Sun" division), and the Shin Seiki Evas became the class of the field.
It is not to say that they had it easy : earlier in the decade, the recently-rebranded
Toyama Wind Dancers, led by GM Ron Collins, put up the early challenge. Then, GM Morris Ragland of the
Okinawa Shisa posted a 106-win season in 2027, only to be dethroned by the "Evil Evas" in the playoffs. Through it all, the Evas reigned supreme : qualifying for the playoffs in every PEBA season they were ever in ... including 100+ win seasons in five of the last nine years.
Recently, it was the
Neo Tokyo Akira that brought the youth movement and the big challenge. Players such as Outfielder
Tomas Martínez, and veteran pitchers
José Santos and
Luigi Bright were up for a fight. It was enough for a 96-win season, but were still swept by Shin Seiki in the S.L. Championship Series.
The legend of the "Evil Evas" lives on. If you want to challenge for PEBA glory, especially in the Sovereign League, you know you'll have to face this team somewhere on your journey!
