In the top of the first, Spangler put the Colt .45s on the board with an RBI triple. Mejias followed with a double that scored Spangler. Aspromonte brought Mejias home with a single.

In the top of the second, Farrell cashed in his own triple when he scored on a passed ball.

In the bottom of the second, the Cardinals loaded the bases with one out. Broglio went down on strikes for the second out. Javier drew a walk to force in the Cardinals first run. Warwick then scored on a wild pitch.

In the bottom of the third, Musial hit a solo home run.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Cardinals loaded the bases with two out. Warwick drew a walk to force in the tying run. Oliver grounded to third to end the inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Cardinals loaded the bases with two out. Farrell was called for a balk, bringing the go-ahead run in from third.

After six: St Louis 5 Houston 4.

After a leadoff walk in the bottom of the seventh, Bobby Shantz took the mound for the Colt .45s. One out later, Oliver hit a two-run homer.

In the top of the eighth, Taussig got the Colt .45s back in it with a two-run triple.

Jim Umbricht took the mound for the Colt .45s in the bottom of the eighth. Javier scored on a wild pitch.

The Colt .45s went down in order in the top of the ninth.

The Colt .45s lost despite tallying 11 hits.

Final score: St Louis 8 Houston 6.
