Pitching Notes
  • Bob Carithers pitched a 6-hit shutout of the LA Bluebirds on June 12th. He struck out 7 and walked 1.
  • Charlie Pepe moved Ruben Solis into the rotation, and he promptly went out and pitched a 4 hit shutout on June 14th against the LA Bluebirds. He struck out 6 and did not walk a batter in his 9 innings of work, to run his record to 6-1 with a 1.37 ERA.
  • With Solis moving into the rotation, Pepe has installed just-called up Bob Stone as the closer.
  • Juan Leyva has fallen to 2nd in ERA, 2.02, behind Steve Weston of Philadelphia, who is at 1.76.
  • Leyva is one of four pitchers in the Big Leagues with 10 wins.

  • Ron Schwartz has been slowly closing the gap on All-Star votes at the Catcher position. He trails Cincinnati’s Luis Diaz by roughly 16,000 votes right now.

  • New York Mammoths SP Bill DeMasi continues to be the Hickory League’s leading vote-getter for the All-Star Game this season. He currently has 1,160,708 votes.
