In the top of the fourth, Kasko put the Reds on the board with an RBI double.

In the bottom of the fourth, Aspromonte tied the game with an RBI single. The Colt .45s went on to load the bases with two out but Bruce popped out to the catcher to end the inning.

In the top of the fifth, the Reds loaded the bases with nobody out. Coleman came up to bat and took a 1-1 pitch 381 feet to left for a grand slam.

In the bottom of the fifth, Ranew got a two out run-scoring single.

After six: Cincinnati 5 Houston 2.

In the top of the seventh, Cardenas added a run-scoring single to the Reds lead. With two out, Kasko also got an RBI single.

In the top of the eighth, the Reds loaded the bases with two out on three straight walks. Cardenas singled to score two.

In the top of the ninth, with a runner on first and two out, the Colt .45s finally made a pitching change and brought in Jim Golden.

The Reds got 10 hits in the win.

Final score: Cincinnati 9 Houston 2.
