After going 0-7 on their last road trip, the Colt .45s begin a seven game home stand tonight. Starting with a two-game series against 1962's other expansion team, the New York Mets. The Colt .45s have lost nine straight. The season series between these two teams is tied 1-1.

In the top of the first, Hickman put the Mets on the board with an RBI single. On the very next batter, Spangler threw Thomas out athome when he tagged up and tried to score on a Neal fly out to left.

In the bottom of the first, Mejias put the Colt .45s in the lead with a 391 foot blast to left with a man on first.

After three: Houston 2 New York 1.

In the top of the fourth, with runners at second and third and two out, Jim Golden took the mound for the Colt .45s. Ashburn put the Mets back in the lead with a two-run single.

In the bottom of the fourth, Ranew beat out the 4-6-3 to allow Mejias to score the tying run from third.

In the top of the sixth, Mantilla gave the Mets the lead back with a two-run single. With Mantilla on first and two out, Jim Umbricht took the mound for the Colt .45s.

After six: New York 5 Houston 3.

After a leadoff single in the top of the eighth, Dave Giusti took the mound for the Colt .45s. Mantilla brought another run home with an RBI single.

Bobby Shantz took the mound for the Colt .45s in the top of the ninth.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Colt .45s put runners at first and second with two out. Ranew came to bat representing the tying run but flew out to center to end the game.

The Mets out hit the Colt .45s 15-4 in the contest.

Final score: New York 6 Houston 3.
