In the top of the first, Nelson hit a solo home run.

In the bottom of the third, the Yankees loaded the bases with one out. Ellis hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game.

After three: Texas 1 New York 1.

In the top of the fourth, Howard scored when Billings beat out the 6-4-3.

In the top of the sixth, the Rangers added to their lead thanks to an RBI double by Mincher.

In the bottom of the sixth, with runners at first and second and nobody out, Paul Lindblad took the mound for the Rangers. A passed ball led to an intentional walk and the bases were loaded with nobody out. Peterson went down swinging for the first out. White hit a fly ball to center and then Maddox threw Clarke out at home after he had tagged up and tried to score. And the Yankees got nothing.

After six: Texas 3 New York 1.

Alou led off the bottom of the seventh with a home run. With runners at first and second and nobody out, Jim Panther took the mound for the Rangers. And he got them outof the inning with a one run lead.

In the bottom of the eighth, with a runner on first and one out, Casey Cox took the mound for the Rangers. With two men out, Alou doubled but Peterson was thrown out at home by Howard as he was trying to score the tying run from first.

In the top of the ninth, Ford hit an RBI single.

In the bottom of the ninth, Jim Shellenback took the mound for the Rangers. The Yankees got a single but no more as pinch hitter Thurman Munson grounded to second to end the game.

The Yankees lost despite tallying 10 hits.

Final score: Texas 4 New York 2.
