(updated with the 2.1 build 4 patch)

With a record of 8-4-1, the Islanders continue to rack up the wins and pile up the points. Over the 13 games played this month, the Islanders scored an impressive 45 goals - or about 3.5 goals per game! While happy with the surge in goal scoring, the goals allowed took a hit this month - with 36 goals against, or a 2.77 gaa. The PP units showed a marginal improvement, and they are now successful on 16.5% of their opportunities. The PK unit dipped a bit, with a kill rate of 82.9%.

The goaltending has been solid, although Eddie Lack had a couple of bad games last month, but Jaro Halak continues to play very well and his stat line confirms that. On the blue line - with the recent trade of Jamie Oleksiak, Brian Strait has been recalled and inserted into the lineup. The third pairing is probably in need of an upgrade - although Marek Zidlicky has played decent.

To Detroit: Jamie Oleksiak, 2016 6th round pick
To Islanders: Darren Helm, 2016 2nd round pick

To Vancouver: Josh Bailey, 2016 4th round pick
To Islanders: Radim Vrbata, 2016 2nd round pick

Trading Bailey wasn’t as easy as you might think, as he led the team in takeaways. Forwards with more takeaways than giveaways are tough to find but the acquisition of Vrbata gives the team more scoring punch. Darren Helm has been brought in to help out the penalty killing unit, and while trading Oleksiak wasn't ideal, the 2nd round draft pick will be a good asset for the second half of the season.

From around the League

No major injuries (4+ weeks) to report, and there were only a couple of minor trades. Newsflashes out of Colorado and Vancouver suggested that Patrick Roy and Willie Desjardins are both on the hot seat, and unless things turn around for their respective teams - they may soon find themselves unemployed. Perhaps the most surprising development however, was the rumours surrounding Ken Holland in Detroit.

With the league almost at its mid-way point of the season, here are the league leaders in various categories.
