Player of the Game

Is there any way of knowing how this is calculated? Is there actually a formula for it?

One of my starting pitchers just broke the league record for strikeouts in a single game with 17 (and no walks) but was not player of the game, which surprised me a little.

To be fair, he did give up two runs on five hits - having had a two-hit shutout after 7 innings and then tiring a little as I left him in slightly past his usual pitch count hoping he would break the record (the game was not remotely close).

Player of the Game was my first baseman who was 3-5 with a double, a home run and 5 RBI - he did not feature on the league's performances of the day, whereas my pitcher appeared at #1.
