Walkers news: May 10 -- Grand Rapids 8, St. Louis 2
Record: 17-13, 2nd (Tied/w. Cedar Rapids), 2 GB Des Moines
Kris Bryant hit a first-inning grand slam off St. Louis starting pitcher Trevor Bauer and Grand Rapids was well on its way to an 8-2 win at the Polo Grounds.
With the win, the Traders took two of three from the River Walkers.
Things could not have started any worse for Bauer, who allowed singles to Jean Segura, Christian Yellich and Juan Soto to open the game before Bryant smacked one of his pitches 426-feet into the right-field seats.
The Traders lead grew to 8-0 in the bottom of the fifth, when Marwin Gonzalez collected a two-run single off reliever John Curtiss.
Grand Rapids starter Robbie Ray went five innings, allowing one run on three hits. He struck out six and walked three.
Three relievers -- Dae-Su Moon (1.0), Cody Allen (2.0) and Shane McClanahan (1.0) -- combined to shutout the Walkers the rest of the way.
