Walkers news: May 6 -- Des Moines 9, St. Louis 3

Des Moines beat up on a weary St. Louis pitching staff, posting a 9-3 win at Busch Stadium to complete a three-game sweep and move into a tie for first place in the NL South Division.
The Harvesters won the the first games by the score of 7-2, outscoring St. Louis 23-7 in the series.

Both its starting rotation and bullpen decimated by extra inning games and short outings, the Walkers were forced to call up Henry Sosa from AA Springfield to make an emergency start.
It did not go well.
The Walkers actually scored three runs in the first -- Andrew Benintendi driving in two of them with a double off Harvesters starting pitcher Zach Wheeler -- but Des Moines took control with a four-run outburst against Sosa in the third.
The first run scored on a play where Sosa made a throwing error. The second when he threw a wild pitch.
A.J. Pollack then smacked a two-run double, making it 5-3.
With no rested pitchers in the bullpen, Sosa had to stay out there as Des Moines increased its lead to 9-3.
Cody Bellinger hit a three-run homer in the top of the fifth to do most of the damage.
Wheeler allowed three runs on six hits over the first five innings.

Four relievers combined to shut out St. Louis the rest of the way -- Max Fried (1.1 IP), Bo Schultz (0.2), Bryan Garcia (1.1) and Rory Stevens (0.2) -- as the Harvesters grabbed a share of the lead in the NL South.
