In an attempt to change things up, I've imposed a salary threshold on my team.
Since, this team is a fictional version of the St. Louis Cardinals I went back and saw that from 2014 to 2018 the team averaged a payroll that was 78 percent of what was the MLB luxury tax.
Each of the first five seasons, I never topped the payroll list but since 2020 been in the top four.

With a salary cap of $205 million, I imposed a cap of $159.9 million as my spending limit going into the season.
Once the season starts, I can make moves but can move no higher than fifth in total payroll. I also can exceed the $159.9M barrier.
But have to get back below it before the start of the 2024 season.
Going into spring training, my payroll was just over $165 million, so I will have to move some players -- probably overpaid veterans outfielder Ender Inciarte and shortstop Andrelton Simmons -- to get under that threshold.
I've finished over .500 each of the five seasons I have run this team, but this will make it more of a challenge.
