NHL Expansion Draft nets new Sharks
7/1/1991 15.00 PST

5 goalies and 18 skaters were selected by the new San Jose hockey team today marking the team’s first ever roster. Amongst the various players, some names may be familiar to local hockey fans. Former Los Angeles Kings goaltender Glenn Healy (pictured) headlined the cast of young and old players that are to call San Jose their new home.

“It’s exciting to come back and play in California.” Said the 29 year old Healy from his summer home in Pickering Ontario. “I’ve spoken to a few of the guys and we’re all ready to finish up the off-season and drop the puck.”

The full list of draft picks is below:

In total, seven players have come from the Montreal Canadiens, making them the largest contributor to the San Jose Sharks.

When asked what he looked for in the players he picked, GM Fyvie answered “Character. We want guys that can take a long 84 schedule and not get discouraged. We’re not expected to win a lot of games, but we want to instil a culture where we take every game one shift at a time.”

The NHL entry draft is set to begin in 2 days, making it another opportunity for GM Fyvie and his team to add to this small, but growing, roster.
