In the top of the first, a sacrifice fly by Spangler brought Amalfitano home with the game's first run.

In the top of the second, Smith added a run-scoring double. Taussig brought one home with a single. Another run scored on a single by Amalfitano. Taussig went on to score on a Buddin sacrifice fly. The Colt .45s loaded the bases with two out. Larker, batting for the second time in the inning, grounded to second to retire the side.

In the bottom of the second, the Cubs loaded the bases with nobody out. Will put the Cubs on the board with an RBI single. Curtis went down on strikes for the first out. White addedan RBI single. Rodgers drew a walk to force in another run. A sacrifice fly from Altman made it a one run game as the Cubs batted around the order in the inning.

In the bottom of the third, Gabrielson tied the game with an RBI double.

After three: Houston 5 Chicago 5.

In the bottom of the fourth, Buddin was unable to handle a Banks grounder and Altman scored from third to give the Cubs the lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Cubs loaded the bases with two out. George Brunet took the mound for the Colt .45s. Rodgers hit a two run single. Altman followed with an RBI single.

After six: Chicago 9 Houston 5.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Cubs made it ten unanswered runs when Bertell hit an RBI single. Hubbs singled to load the bases with two out. Gabrielson singled to score one but Spangler threw Bertell out at home as he was trying to score from second.

Dave Giusti took the mound for the Colt .45s in the bottom of the eighth. Altman got another RBI single.

The two teams combined for 33 hits in the contest with the Cubs getting 21 of them.

Final score: Chicago 12 Houston 5.
