The Cubs begin a three game series at home against the Cincinnati Reds.

The Brooklyn Superbas traded CF Billy Maloney and 2B John Hummel to the Washington Senators for SP Tom J Hughes.

The Cubs loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the first. That led to a 2-RBI single by Steinfeldt. A single by Slagle loaded the bases again. Kling hit a grounder to second but beat out the double play to allow Schulte to score from third. Then Hofman had an RBI single as the Cubs batted around the order in the first inning.

In the bottom of the second, Sheckard got an RBI single. The Cubs went on to, again, load the bases with one out. Slagle flied out to left and then Kelley threw Sheckard out at home as he was trying to score from third to end the inning.

The Reds loaded the bases with two out in the top of the third and Barry delivered the run-scoring single. Kelley then popped out to first to retire the side.

After three: Chicago 5 Cincinnati 1.

In the bottom of the fourth, Schlei threw out Chance at second to record his 10th caught base stealer on the season.

In the bottom of the fifth, Kling brought 1 home with a single. Hofman then added a sacrifice fly for an RBI. Reulbach tried to add to the lead as well when he stroked a single to right but Kling was thrown out at home by Hinchman while trying to score from second to end the inning.

After six: Chicago 7 Cincinnati 1.

In the bottom of the seventh, Hofman knocked in 2 with a triple.

The Cubs would end the game with 16 hits.

Final score: Chicago 9 Cincinnati 1.
