The Cubs loaded the bases with two out in the bottom of the first. But then Slagle flew out to left to end the inning.

In the top of the second, Grady was injured running the bases and had to leave the game. He was replaced by Gabby Street. Street would then score from third on a passed ball. Beckley would also score from third in the inning, coming home when Tinker muffed a ground ball.

After three: St Louis 2 Chicago 0.

Tinker committed another error in the fourth and the Cardinals loaded the bases with one out. Fromme then brought home a run with a sacrifice fly.

The Cubs finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth as Schulte hit a run-scoring single.

The Cardinals committed a big error in the bottom of the sixth and then Evers tied the game with a 2-RBI single.

After six: St Louis 3 Chicago 3.

With the score still tied, Evers led off the bottom of the ninth with a double. Sheckard moved him to third with a sacrifice bunt. Chance was walked intentionally to put runners at the corners with one out. Schulte flied out to center for the second out. And the Steinfeldt flew out to center and the game went into extra innings.

After nine: St Louis 3 Chicago 3.

The Cubs got a runner to second in the bottom of the tenth but Reulbach flew out to center to end the inning.

Bennett hit an RBI double in the top of the eleventh to give the Cardinals their lead back. Reulbach struck out Fromme to end the frame and record his 10th K of the game.

With a runner on first and one out in the bottom of the eleventh, the Cardinals brought in Charlie Rhodes to pitch. The Cubs would load the bases with two out but Slagle flew out to left to end the game.

Final score: St Louis 4 Chicago 3 11 innings.
