In the top of the sixth, Smoot tied the game with a two out single that brought Grady home from second.

The Cardinals came through with two outs again in the top of the eighth as Arndt knocked in a run with a double.

The Cardinals committed a crucial error in thebottom of the eighth and Chance made them pay with a game tying RBI double.

Another error began the bottom of the ninth and then, with runners at second and third and two out, Evers singled to send the 9446 fans home happy.

Final score: Chicago 3 St Louis 2.
