In the top of the first, Steinfeldt knocked two in with a single.

The Reds loaded the bases with two out in the bottom of the first but Kelley popped out to third to end the inning.

In the top of the second, Seymour threw Slagle out at home as he was trying to score on a fly ball out.

In the top of the third, Hinchman threw Sheckard out at home as he was trying to score from second on a Chance single.

In the bottom of the third, Seymour had to leave the game with a leg injury after hitting a double. He was replaced by Fred Odwell. Tinker booted a ground ball to allow Huggins to score from third. Barry then tied the game with an RBI single.

After three: Chicago 2 Cincinnati 2.

In the top of the sixth, it was Chance with a run-scoring double to give the Cubs the lead back. The Cubs would go on to load the bases with two out. Kling hit an RBI single before Wicker popped out to first to retire the side

After six: Chicago 4 Cincinnati 2.

In the bottom of the eighth, Lobert tied the game with a two-run single.

The Reds got the winning run on base in the bottom of the ninth but Odwell grounded into the inning ending 6-4-3.

After nine: Chicago 4 Cincinnati 4.

In the bottom of the tenth, the Reds got the winning run to third but Lobert grounded to third to end the inning.

In the top of the eleventh, Chance had an RBI single to once again give the Cubs the lead. Steinfeldt singled to load the bases with one out. Dorner then hit Schulte in the knee to force in a run. Schulte had to leave the game and was replaced by Solly Hofman. Slagle then drew a walk to force in the next run. Dorner was replaced by Chick Fraser with the bases still loaded and one out. Tinker grounded into a fielder's choice at short, forcing the lead runner at home for the second out. Kling then popped out to second to retire the side as nine men came to the plate in the inning for the Cubs.

The Reds were not done yet as Delahanty got an RBI single in the bottom of the eleventh. Mordecai Brown took the mound for the Cubs with runners at the corners and two out. Tinker fumbled the game ending grounder, allowing a run to score before Kelley grounded to short to end the game with the tying run at second.

Final score: Chicago 7 Cincinnati 6 11 innings.
