Evers got a one out single in the top of the first for the Cubs first hit of the season. Evers then stole second but was stranded at third.

Overall broke the scoreless tie with an RBI single in the bottom of the third.

After three: Cincinnati 1 Chicago 0.

The Reds added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth thanks to an RBI single from Seymour.

Kelley had a single in the bottom of the sixth for the Reds 10th hit of the game but he was left stranded at first.

After six: Cincinnati 2 Chicago 0.

Kelley got an RBI triple in the bottom of the eighth. That moved Kelley into sixth place all time in career triples with 182. Schlei then brought Kelley home with a single.

The Cubs finally got on the board in the top of the ninth thanks to a 2 out RBI double by Sheckard. Then, a throwing error by Lobert gave the Cubs two more runs. But with the tying run at second, Chance grounded out to first to end the game.

Final score: Cincinnati 4 Chicago 3.
