PILOTS SIGN PAIR OF PROSPECTS
The Atlanta Pilots signed a pair of prospects, as young players across the country have wrapped up their high school and college seasons.
The Pilots signed outfielder
Jimmy Wynn and infielder
Bert Campaneris, two touted prospects.
Wynn, nicknamed the Toy Cannon, is known for his massive power despite his diminutive size.
Campaneris has very good speed, and could play multiple positions across the diamond, from catcher to first base to shortstop.
The 19-year-olds are expected to slot into the Pilots starting lineup immediately, and manager Charlie Grimm hopes the two will be a boost to the Continental League's worst offense.
"It's no secret that we've had trouble scoring runs. These two kids are talented guys and we're going to count on them to help us out. You have to give credit to our front office for signing such young and talented guys," Grimm said.
The Pilots are 20-42 and have the worst record in the Continental League.
Elsewhere in the Continental League
The Pilots weren't the only team that signed a young prospect, as the Houston Colt .45s added pitching prospect
Fergie Jenkins. Similar to the Pilots with Wynn and Campaneris, the Colts will use Jenkins immediately, slotting him in their rotation.
