Brendan Spagnuolo tossed six shutout innings and combined with four relievers on a shutout as St. Louis defeated Cedar Rapids 3-0 at Busch Stadium (1997).
Spagnuolo allowed three hits while striking out five and walking three during his time on the mound.
Bobby Poyner worked a scoreless seventh inning
Phil Maton handled the eighth and got the first out of the ninth.
Felipe Vazquez retired the only two batters he faced to end it.
Bo Bichette took former River Walkers starter Trevor Bauer deep in the second inning to put St.Louis ahead 1-0.
Nicky Delmonico had a solo shot in the seventh off Jacob Rhame to push it to 2-0.
Bichette collected a second RBI and drove in an insurance run in the eighth with a sacrifice fly.
