Montreal will host the Detroit Red Wings (24-18-5) to the Bell Center tonight. Montreal leads the seasonal series 4-1-0 including a 4-1 win the last time they played in Montreal.


Detroit breaks the ice at 10:46 when LW Bill Dennis gets his 1st of the season on a deflection to make it 1-0. Detroit goes up 2-0 at 16:23 when LW Chad Deraspe wrists home his own rebound for his 19th of the year beating G Bill Wolfenbarger on the PP. Shortly after newly acquired RW Ken Patterson gets his 1st as a Red Wing at 16:36 tipping in his 16th of the year. Detroit RD Daniel Jelinek gets his 6th of the year at 18:39 and it is now 4-0 Detroit. The period mercifully ends for Montreal with the shots 9-9.


Montreal does get on the board on the PP, RD Steven Thornton gets his 9th of the year at 16:06 of the 2nd period and Montreal has made it 4-1. The period ends that way and the shots now favour Montreal 19-16 but the Red Wings lead.


Montreal gets to within 2 at 4-2 when RW Petr Klusacek redirects C Phil Wheeler's shot at 10:59 for his 9th of the year. Detroit puts it out of reach with an empty netter at 19:29 when C Alex Joaquin deposits his 16th into the empty cage. The final shots were 28-25 for the Red Wings.

Detroit RD Daniel Jelinek had a goal and an assist and was the 1st star. The 21 year old now has 6 goals and 18 points with 21 PIMs and a +15 rating in 36 games. Jelinek was drafted 70th overall by the Red Wings in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
